Privacy Policy
This policy explains, in plain language, what information Travel Journal collects when you visit traveljournalclub.com, how it's used, and the choices you have. We've deliberately built this site to collect as little personal data as possible.
The short version
We don't ask you to create an account, and we don't sell your data — ever. We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to understand roughly how many people visit, and some of our links are affiliate links that may set cookies through the partner's own website. That's essentially it.
Information we collect
Information you give us. The only time you'd share personal information with us directly is if you email us. In that case we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write, and we use it solely to reply to you.
Information collected automatically. Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical data when your browser requests a page — such as your approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, and the pages you view. This is used to serve the site, keep it secure and understand general traffic. We measure visits using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is privacy-first and does not use cookies or build a profile of you across websites.
Cookies
Travel Journal itself does not set advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may set essential cookies needed for security and to deliver the site correctly. If you click an affiliate link or interact with content embedded from another company, that third party may set its own cookies — see “Affiliate links” below. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings.
Affiliate links
Travel Journal takes part in affiliate programs, including Amazon Associates and GetYourGuide, among others. When you click one of these links and go on to book or buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. To make this work, the partner may place a cookie in your browser to credit the referral. These cookies and any data collected through them are controlled by the partner, under their own privacy policy — for example Amazon and GetYourGuide. We only ever recommend things we genuinely believe in; you can read more on our About page.
Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted services to run the site, and your data is handled under their respective privacy policies:
Cloudflare — hosting, security and cookieless analytics (privacy policy).
Google Search Console — shows us how the site performs in Google Search; it reports aggregate search data and does not track your activity on our pages (privacy policy).
Unsplash — some images are served from Unsplash's network, so your browser requests them directly from Unsplash (privacy policy).
Pinterest — we share content on Pinterest; if you follow a link from there, Pinterest's own policy applies (privacy policy).
How we use information
We use the limited information described above only to operate and secure the website, understand general traffic so we can improve our content, respond to messages you send us, and meet our legal obligations. We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't use it to advertise to you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the GDPR in the UK and EU, or the CCPA in California — you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. Because we don't run accounts and collect so little, we often won't hold personal data about you at all. If you'd like to make a request, just email us and we'll do our best to help.
Children's privacy
Travel Journal is intended for adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
International visitors
Travel Journal is read around the world, and the services we use may process data on servers located in other countries. By using the site you understand that your information may be handled outside your home country, always in line with this policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site evolves — for instance if we add a newsletter or a new partner. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
